Barchester Healthcare implement a programme of new fitness related activities for their residents.
This programme has begun with the introduction of Vitalyz training, innovative ideas and equipment. Of the 14 activity staff trained by Tony Duke at Chacombe Park during Sept '08, 11 said the day was motivating and 9 said inspirational.

Age Concern reveals huge public worries about quality of care (28.04.08)
8 of out 10 people in Britain are very concerned about the quality of care they or their loved ones will get in later life, research for Age Concern reveals today. Four out of ten people are not even confident they will be treated with dignity or respect, despite a high profile Government campaign to address this.
The charity is launching a major new campaign – “The Big Q” – challenging all the party leaders to match their rhetoric with a commitment to radical reform to improve the quality of care, ahead of a public consultation the Government is planning to hold later this year.
“The Big Q” campaign sets out 5 building blocks for the foundation of a new quality care system in its new report “Quality not Inequality”: -
- Respecting people’s Dignity
- Enabling people to maintain their Independence
- Ensuring Fairness for all who need care
- Giving Clarity about getting the support you need
- Increasing the amount of Money available to provide quality care
Star turn from care worker firm

A Portsmouth firm says it has found a way of helping local care homes achieve a higher star rating. The Commission for Social Care Inspection scheme allows the general public to view which care home offers the most comprehensive service and accommodation.
Vitalyz, a firm that trains care workers to provide therapeutic activities, claims that the introduction of physical activities helps tick a number of boxes in the CSCI’s star scheme, and it has designed a one-day training course on seated exercise.
Co-founder Tony Duke said: ‘Not only will it help care homes improve star ratings, but it will help care workers and residents interact.’
